The Tekken 4 PS2 video game was commonly flood with critics by numerous for being too unimaginative and by lowering the standard of fighting games. Edge magazine was among the harshest and most respected critics, and they offered the game a 6/10.

Tekken 4 PS2 has less characters than Tekken 3 and 5, and is more 'arcade', meaning there is less skill required to win in the game than there ever was, and even more of winning is based on luck and other variables. For instance, the levels are no-longer flat - there are some levels with steps and little cliffs.
